Emotion and the Learning Moment

In this 1-hour introductory workshop, we will look at some of the basics of emotional dysregulation from a trauma-informed perspective. We'll explore (and even experience) some of the more challenging emotions that can come up in a classroom and what it takes to bring learning back on line. Our topics will include the therapeutic principles of trauma-informed classrooms, the neuroscience of disrupted motivation systems, and the repair techniques of needs-based responsiveness. Join us as we learn what it takes to support our most vulnerable students while we move with them through the rough patches to a place of trust and hope.

Is Your Class Healing?

For many of the almost 30,000,000 adults in the U.S. who have not graduated high school, the classroom represents a place of fear and shame that should be avoided. How can we support them as they change that painful narrative to one of healing, openness, and growth? Join Tim Amaral, our award-winning adult ed. instructor, as he shares what his students taught him about the journey back from educational trauma and what it takes to make the classroom a truly healing place. This 3-hour program looks more deeply at dysregulation as well as techniques for re-regulation and re-attunement.

The Deepest Dive

When we think about persistence, a large portion of what motivates student behavior obviously lies beneath the surface. This 6-hour training asks what are we missing? What does it take to keep our most vulnerable students on the pathway to success when things get hard and when self-sabotage looks inevitable? Join us as we get some answers by taking a deep dive into trauma's pervasive impact on the brain.

The Healthy Classroom: From Connection to Success

Trauma is an all too common experience in the US (61% of all adults), and it has profound implications for the adult classroom. In this 12-hour workshop, we will look at the roots of the issue, the biology of dysregulation, and some intervention tools before moving on to community building, curriculum design and classroom management practices that take us from a healthy foundation of connection to ultimate academic success. We will close out the training with a strong focus on developing a practice of teacher self-care.
